Refurbishment and Participates in Community Tree Planting Program

Mumbai, India - July 15, 2009

As part of their community outreach program to support the welfare and growth of the Kalwa community, Dow Chemical International Pvt. Ltd. (Dow India) today dedicated a second renovated Angan Wadi and Community Center at Ganesh Nagar, Digha Ward in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation zone.

The Angan Wadi at Ganesh Mandir is a crèche cum community centre which provides basic education, games and recreational activities for up to 75 lower income children between the ages of two to ten as well as offering quality nourishment through a midday meal.  Through Dow India’s support, the center received a full upgrade to its infrastructure; the existing electrical equipment was replaced, floors were rubberized, a play area outside was extended, walls were painted and new desks and chairs were installed. Dow India also provided various study equipment including wall charts, green boards, books and play materials.

“Sustainability and education are key drivers that make up the very fabric of our company, and it is important for us to share this focus with the communities in which we operate,” said Mahesh Gopalsamudram, site leader Polyurethane System House in Kalwa.  “Children are essential to the long-term development of this community and we hope that the refurbished center will help to enhance their learning experience and guide them to a successful future.”

In another separate initiative today, Dow India’s Kalwa site also supported a tree plantation drive as a part of a wider community program. The site donated tree guards for approximately 40 tree saplings which were provided by the Rotary Club of Airoli to be planted in the local community on land adjacent to the Dow India facility.
