São Paulo, Brazil - July 27, 2009
Committing more than R$ 200 million in private social investments in Brazil and at least 87,000 volunteer professionals, member companies of +Unidos Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative are gathering to communicate the importance of programs to support education, health, environment, culture, welfare and job training.
On August 1, Saturday, +Unidos will host a free concert - A Show of Solidarity - at Ibirapuera Park, in São Paulo. Headlining the event will be Ed Motta, respected Brazilian pop singer, accompanied by orchestra Arte Viva, under the direction of the maestro Amilson Godoy.
During the event, the Solidarity Fund of São Paulo will collect donations of non-perishable goods and used sweaters to be donated to various social entities in São Paulo.
"Since 2006, +Unidos has achieved major milestones, but we want to do more – in partnership with each other for the common good of Brazil, its people, its environment and its economy," said Pedro Suarez, President of Dow Brasil S/A and board member of +Unidos.
The concert was conceived to celebrate Brazilian music and provide visibility to the goals and achievements of +Unidos member companies around social responsibility in Brazil. Planned and organized by Dow Brasil by full approval of the Rouanet Law, from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, "A Show of Solidarity" also counts on the sponsorship of USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development) and Qualcomm.
Aligned with the commitment of +Unidos to social responsibility and sustainability, environmental emissions predicated because of the show in Ibirapuera will be offset with the planting of trees, and all the waste generated during the event will be managed in order to provide the recycling and/or reuse of materials in proper conditions.
In addition to the concert, on July 30, +Unidos will hold a special Board Meeting, at the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) in São Paulo, to discuss strategic issues and launch its new Internet portal (www.maisunidos.org). The meeting will include comments from the current United States Ambassador to Brazil, Clifford Sobel, and Karen Turner, Director Global Development Partners of USAID, and a key note address on "Environmental Education and Collaboration" from world-renown explorer and environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau, President of Ocean Futures Society (OFS).

About +Unidos
Created in October 2006 by the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, the +Unidos Group is a partnership between the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Brazil through its U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and American companies established in Brazilian territory. The mission of the Group is to strengthen public and private alliances to optimize and enhance U.S. CSR investments in Brazil towards sustainably achieving the Millennium Development Goals. +Unidos seeks to promote visibility for its member’s investments in environment, socio and economic-related projects, as well to promote the theme of corporate social responsibility among different segments of Brazilian society. This is done through the dissemination of best practices, success stories, and the establishment of public-private partnerships. In 2009 +Unidos created its own statute, a three year strategic plan, and a membership form. These actions aim at establishing the Group as a permanent, effective and self-sustainable organization. With the collaboration of USAID/Brazil, +Unidos selected four projects that are already being implemented by companies associated to the Group, and will receive support from other members interested in strengthening such initiatives throughout 2009.
