Dow and U.S. Department of Energy Collaborate to Conserve Energy
In this day and age of high energy prices and growing demand, it’s wise to explore as many ways as possible to conserve energy. This is why Dow, already a leader in energy efficiency, is participating in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Save Energy Now program, which offers free assessments to energy-intensive companies interested in further reducing their energy use.
Special Assessments are Saving Millions
Using a special set of tools and methodologies, a DOE Energy Savings Team of experts has already revealed opportunities to reduce energy use by another two percent at Dow’s St. Charles Operations site in Louisiana, which equals about $5 million per year in savings. More assessments are forthcoming in 2006 at Dow sites in West Virginia, Louisiana, Michigan and Texas.
“By being in the vanguard of plants conducting these energy savings assessments, Dow’s St. Charles plant is paving the way in helping the United States meet the energy efficiency challenge of saving energy and money, and increasing productivity,” said Samuel W. Bodman, U.S. Secretary of Energy.
Collaboration Delivers Sustainable Solutions
Saving energy not only addresses the U.S. energy crisis, it also benefits the global environment by reducing greenhouse gases and their potential impact on climate change.
“Collaboration among all sectors of society will only help advance efforts to create sustainable solutions to energy-related problems,” said Joe Almaguer, global energy efficiency leader for Dow. “Dow has a long history of energy conservation, but realizes that no single entity can possibly have all the answers. By working together and sharing best practices, we can all reap the benefits — economically, socially and environmentally.”
Saving Energy on Many Fronts
Dow is actively engaged on many fronts to reduce energy needs. It has, for example, reduced energy use per pound of product by 22 percent versus a 1994 baseline through its own assessments and projects, and has set even more aggressive goals to achieve by 2015. In addition, Dow produces an array of products that promote energy efficiency for consumers — such as STYROFOAM™ brand insulation, and is a sponsor of the Alliance to Save Energy’s, The Power is in Your Hands, energy efficiency campaign targeted to the U.S. public.
Living. Improved daily. By safely conserving energy every day, and in every way.
