Merit Award Winner Tim Overton
The Dow Chemical Company’s Director of Process Safety, Tim Overton, was recently recognized with the 2008 Mary Kay O’Connor (MKOC) Process Safety Center Merit Award for his commitment to sustainable improved process safety performance across the industry. The Merit Award is one of the few international awards given in this field.

As a leader in his field, Overton has been championing a global effort to create and adopt new process safety metrics and definitions within the industry. This is an effort that has taken him around the world to speak at conferences, meet with regulators and chair industry committees – allowing him to influence a broad spectrum of global industry players.

“Tim has a true passion for process safety, and his expertise and leadership in the field keep Dow at the forefront of industry-leading process safety work processes and technologies,” said Margaret Walker, vice president of Engineering Solutions and Technology Centers at Dow. “Tim’s contributions go much further than just the walls of The Dow Chemical Company – he’s truly helping make the chemical industry safer around the world.”

“Strong attention upon process safety is so important to me because I know what can happen without it,” said Overton. “I’m proud to work for a company that knows the importance of safety and is working toward a goal of zero accidents and incidents. Not only does process safety protect Dow’s license to operate, but it also creates a safer place for us as employees, and for the communities in which we live and work.”
