Dow Wins David Weekley Homes’ Top Quality and Service Award

Dow Achieves Builder’s Prestigious “Partners of Choice Award” for 5th consecutive year

Midland, MI - August 27, 2009

Dow Building Solutions has won its fifth consecutive "Partners of Choice Award" from David Weekley Homes, the nation's second-largest privately held homebuilder. Dow has received the highest rating possible - an "A" in both quality and service - since the program's inception in 2004.

"The National Trading Partner Survey is a practical method for measuring world-class excellence. You cannot talk your way to an 'A' or 'A, A rating,' you must invest in the process," says Bill Justus, vice president of supply chain services for David Weekley Homes. "Dow has demonstrated through its actions that it is world-class in providing products and services to our company. This accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider they have done this for five consecutive years, through significant swings in various markets."

John Hammer, residential market manager for Dow Building Solutions, North America says it's the company's collaborative approach to product innovation and client service that sets it apart from other suppliers. "When homebuilders share with us their toughest construction challenges, we're better able to apply our 60-plus years of building science expertise to their advantage. And we bring valued partners like David Weekley Homes into our innovation process to ensure our newest solutions are practical and will give them a competitive edge in today's market."

Dow recently consulted with David Weekley Homes during Dow's development of a new sheathing product that delivers a more thermally efficient wall than a traditional assembly of cavity insulation and un-insulated sheathing. The new Super TUFF-R™ (R-2) Insulation is durable and provides an R-value of 2, so it can be used with R-11 batts to meet the R-13 energy code for walls in Texas.

David Weekley Homes was also one of the first to field-test STYROFOAM SIS™ Brand Structural Insulated Sheathing, a first-of-its-kind wall system that helps makes high performance, energy efficient homebuilding more cost-effective as well. Now part of David Weekley's Green Home program, these two innovations and other ENERGY STAR-qualified solutions from Dow help them meet the Platinum, Diamond or Gold Level requirements of "Environments For Living," a Masco Home Services' initiative for applying building science and energy-efficient construction practices in the field.

"By teaming with homebuilders on initiatives like David Weekley's Green Home program, we hope to help make higher performance, energy-efficient homes more accessible worldwide," says Hammer.

STYROFOAM™ Brand XPS Foam Insulation and polyisocyanurate insulation products from Dow are ENERGY STAR-qualified and can be used in conjunction with Dow's air sealing products to help builders and homeowners earn energy tax credits provided by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Providing more reasons to choose foam insulation for sustainable design, Dow has begun converting its facilities that manufacture STYROFOAM™ Brand Insulation to its new proprietary no-VOC, zero ozone-depleting foaming agent technology and is well positioned to complete conversion of its plants in advance of the Montreal Protocol deadline.
